Pakistan rice exporters visit Oman to boost trade, explore GCC routes

18-member REAP delegation holds talks with OCCI, meets importers and port officials to address logistics and expand exports.

By News Desk

Pakistan facilitated a visit by rice exporters to Oman this week as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral trade and expand access to Gulf markets.

An 18-member delegation from the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan visited Muscat from April 27 to 29 and held meetings with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other stakeholders, according to a statement.

Talks focused on increasing rice exports to Oman and improving supply chains for the Gulf Cooperation Council region. OCCI Chairperson Sheikh Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas expressed interest in enhancing trade ties and said a delegation of Omani importers is expected to visit Pakistan in May.

Pakistan’s mission in Muscat arranged business-to-business meetings between exporters and Omani importers, distributors and retailers to support direct commercial engagement.

The delegation also held discussions with shipping companies, port authorities and officials from Oman’s transport ministry on logistics challenges, including congestion and delays at regional hubs. Participants explored the use of Omani ports as alternative routes to facilitate exports to GCC markets.

Meetings were also held with Oman’s Food Security Authority to understand procurement procedures for rice imports, including registration and tendering processes. Officials indicated that further briefings would be provided to Pakistani exporters on participation requirements.
