South Korea passes in tender for 50,500 T rice from US, re-tenders
South Korea’s state-backed Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. rejected all offers and made no purchase in an international tender for an estimated 50,500 tonnes of rice to be sourced from the United States which closed earlier in November, European traders said on Tuesday.
The agency has issued a new tender to purchase an estimated 63,600 tonnes of rice also to be sourced from the United States with price offers to be submitted on Nov. 24, they said.
Prices in the previous 50,500 tonne tender which closed on Nov. 9 were regarded as too high, traders said. The agency traditionally can take several weeks to make a decision in its tenders, sometimes seeking samples before buying.
The new tender seeks non-glutinous brown medium grain rice and non-glutinous milled medium grain rice in a series of six consignments for arrival in South Korea 2023 between Feb. 1 and June 30, they said.
