Support for a sustainable rice value chain development

The People’s Committee of Can Tho city has issued a decision approving a grant for the Project on developing a sustainable, low-emission and climate-resilient rice value chain in Can Tho city.

Farmers in Can Tho cultivate low-emission rice, adapting to climate change.

The communes receiving the grant include: Ho Dac Kien, Thuan Hoa, Dai Ngai, Tan Thanh, Gia Hoa, Nhu Gia and Thanh Phu, Can Tho city. The total project capital is more than 788,975 CAD, equivalent to 15 billion VND, funded by Stichting Oxfam NOVIB (Canada).

The project aims to improve socio-economic and environmental welfare for rice farmers, especially women and ethnic minorities, through sustainable and climate-resilient rice production practices in the Mekong Delta.

The project focuses on achieving three specific objectives, including: strengthening rice production of farmers and enterprises towards sustainability, climate change adaptation and gender equality through climate-smart agricultural practices, and effective participation in fair carbon projects in the rice sector; enhancing leadership capacity and decision-making ability of women as well as ethnic minorities; and strengthening cooperation to support climate-smart, climate-resilient rice production.

The implementation period is from the date of approval of the grant until the end of 2029.
