Rice field turned into cat art by Thai farmer

This is the impressive result when farming, science and creativity combine.

These rice fields in Thailand have been transformed into gigantic works of art using clever crop planting.

Tanyapong Jaikham is a factory worker, farmer and artist who somehow managed to squeeze in time to create these magnificent displays on his land in Chiang Rai in northern Thailand.

The artworks depict three cats taking a snooze, and one is even cuddling up to a fish.

Kaikham has been working on the project during his downtime since October and has used various different types of rainbow rice plants to create the amazing work.

He enlisted the help of over 200 volunteers to hand plant the rice, which grows in various colours.

Working alongside an artist, the team used a drone to make sure they were planting in the correct places.

It was said to be inspired by Japanese Tambo art – where rice field art work draw tourists from all over the world.

The plants change tint as they grow. “It’s crucial to position (the rice seeds) accurately, and the rice will gradually change shades over time,” Tanyapong said.

Special viewing towers are being built at the corners of the fields to allow visitors a bird’s eye view of the incredible creations.

“We’re expecting tens of thousands to come and see the art in the rice fields,” the farmer artist said.
