Since many farmers depend on timely sales to repay loans, purchase inputs for the next crop cycle, and meet household expenses.
Now farmer groups are appealing to the authorities to begin the procurement and provide clarity on the procurement schedule. They say that more delay can increase their stress, leading to financial losses. Moreover, the issue highlights the significance of efficient coordination among procurement agencies, rice millers, and government authorities to make sure that policy decisions translate into timely benefits for farmers.
Chhattisgarh Plans Basmati Rice Cultivation Project to Tap Global Markets

The Chhattisgarh government is now preparing to promote Basmati rice cultivation with the aim of increasing farmers’ income and diversifying agriculture. To this end, an important meeting was held in Atal Nagar, Nava Raipur, chaired by Agriculture Minister Ram Vichhar Netam, attended by representatives from the Agriculture Department, Agricultural University, Seed Corporation, and the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF). The meeting discussed in detail the potential for Basmati rice production in the state. The Agriculture Minister directed officials to work seriously on this scheme to increase farmers’ income. He said that farmers would be encouraged to cultivate more profitable crops in addition to traditional farming. During the meeting, it was decided to begin Basmati rice cultivation as a pilot project in Chhattisgarh. The Indian Rice Exporters Federation has also pledged its support for this initiative. The Federation stated that it would provide buyback arrangements, marketing assistance, and export opportunities for farmers. This would provide farmers with better markets for their produce. In addition, the meeting agreed to develop a coordinated system linking production, processing, marketing, and export. The government believes that this initiative will not only help increase farmers’ incomes but could also give Chhattisgarh a new identity in the field of aromatic rice production.
