Direct seeded rice: Haryana govt provided Rs 4k/acre incentive to farmers, says min

TNN

Chandigarh: Haryana agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister Shyam Singh Rana on Thursday informed that the state govt has implemented a scheme to provide an incentive of Rs 4,000 per acre to farmers adopting the Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) method for paddy cultivation during Kharif 2024. The minister responded to a question during the Budget Session of the Vidhan Sabha.

He said that under the scheme, 27,378 farmers in the state were found eligible for benefits, covering a total area of 156,891 acres. Out of these, 18,007 farmers cultivating 109,245 acres already received an incentive amount of Rs 40.36 crore at the rate of Rs 4,000 per acre. He further informed that the payment of Rs 19.06 crore to 9,371 farmers covering 47,646 acres was still pending.

The delay occurred due to a cyberattack on the cloud server, which led to the isolation of the data cluster protected by RailTel Corporation of India. The department is coordinating with RailTel to restore the data. Once the data is restored, the pending payments will be released within the next month. Responding to a supplementary question, the minister also said that the pending claims of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana were also being addressed, and efforts are underway to resolve them at the earliest.
