Thailand boosts agricultural exports to china with rice and cassava in top spot

Officials attribute this surge to both favourable trade terms and sustained demand in China for Thai agricultural produce.

Thailand is stepping up efforts to expand agricultural exports to China, with rice and cassava identified as top priorities, according to Thai Minister of Commerce Pichai Naripthaphan. This is reported by VNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Driven by strong bilateral trade and rising Chinese demand for Thai agricultural products, the Thai Ministry of Commerce is actively promoting key export commodities in the Chinese market.

The minister noted that cassava exports to China have already exceeded expectations following a recent trade agreement between the two nations. Meanwhile, rice exports have recorded significant growth in early 2025.

Between January and April this year, Thailand exported 202,889 tonnes of rice to China – a 77.7 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024. The value of rice exports reached approximately US$108.9 million, representing a 31.3 per cent rise year-on-year.

Officials attribute this surge to both favourable trade terms and sustained demand in China for Thai agricultural produce. The export momentum is expected to continue throughout 2025, reinforcing Thailand’s role as a key food supplier in the Asia-Pacific region.

The government’s strategy aligns with its broader goal of enhancing food trade and economic resilience through diversified agricultural partnerships.
