Rice Farmers Participate at White House Great American Agricultural Celebration

Louisiana rice farmer Jason Waller stands by a familiar ride at the White House

WASHINGTON, DC – On Friday, President Donald Trump hosted hundreds of farmers for the Great American Agricultural Celebration, which has been dubbed “the single largest gathering of American farmers the White House has ever seen.”  The event hosted farmers and ranchers from across the country, including rice farmers from Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Missouri, who witnessed the unveiling of several farm policy developments.

“It was an amazing and surreal event, where I had great interactions with farmers from across the country,” said Jason Waller, a rice farmer and USA Rice member from Mer Rouge, Louisiana.  “President Trump and Secretary Rollins delivered great speeches on topics that are truly top of mind for farmers during these challenging times.”

At the celebration, Trump and Administration officials announced several policies, including changes to biofuel blending requirements, E15 emergency orders, easing regulations on Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), and loan guarantees and small-business support.  He also called on Congress to pass all-year-round E15, enact a farm bill, and provide additional economic relief to farmers.  President Trump was joined by several members of his cabinet, including USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Small Business Administration Head Kelly Loeffler.

Trump noted, “I’m asking Congress to quickly pass the new farm bill, and today I’m promising to request additional farm relief for our great patriots in the next funding bill, so we have you taken care of in both instances.”

Among the deregulatory changes announced on Friday, Trump announced that the Environmental Protection Agency would be easing rules on pollution sensors and provided new guidance on removing DEF sensor requirements for tractors, trucks, and other farm machinery.  According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, this guidance will save farmers $4.4 billion a year, and this action will provide $13.79 billion a year of savings to Americans.
