KARACHI: The Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan held a meeting at its Karachi office on Thursday to discuss challenges and opportunities in rice exports to Kenya, a key market for Pakistani long-grain rice.

The meeting was attended by Senior Vice Chairperson Muhammad Jawed Jillani; Convener of REAP’s Kenya Committee Rafique Suleman; and Executive Committee members Sheeraz Ahmed Shaikh and Mohaib Moulvi, along with around 40 members in person and a large number joining online.

Rafique Suleman thanked participants for their engagement, highlighting strong turnout both physically and via Zoom. Jawed Jillani appreciated government support for exporters through the Duty Drawback of Local Taxes (DLTL) scheme, which offers 9.0 per cent on basmati and 3.0 per cent on non-basmati rice, expressing hope that the incentive would help boost exports.

Participants stressed the need for unity among exporters to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the Kenyan market and agreed to address emerging challenges collectively. Members also decided to hold similar meetings on a monthly basis to maintain coordination.
