Q1 rice exports earnings climb almost 30%

Cambodia exported almost 470,000 tonnes of rice during the first four months of 2026, generating more than $266 million in revenue, an increase of nearly 30% compared to the same period in 2025.

A report released by the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) at the end of last week stated that January to April rice exports saw 61 companies export 469,909 tonne to 60 countries and territories.

Rice exports earned $266.38 million, up 27,3% from the $209.22 million recorded in the same period last year, when Cambodia 282,315 tonnes.

Major markets importing Cambodian rice during the first four months of 2026 included China, with 129,332 tonnes ($75.88 million), ASEAN member countries, 177,761 tonnes ($72.14 million), Europe, 126,108 tonnes ($85.44 million), and other markets.

The most exported rice varieties were fragrant rice at 58.66%, white rice at 21.38%, parboiled rice at 1.69%, organic rice at 0.89%, broken rice 17.18% and other rice varieties at 0.2%.

Cambodia also exported 2,680,891 tonnes of paddy rice, down from 3,031,431 tonnes during the first four months of 2025. Paddy revenue was $576.1 million, declining from $723.05 million.

Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul noted, during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Cambodia Rice Federation in 2025, that through joint efforts between the CRF, development partners and other stakeholders, Cambodia has now transformed itself into a country with a substantial rice surplus.

She explaeind that at the beginning of the seventh-mandate government, the commerce ministry signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to export 500,000 tonnes of rice to China and opened export markets to Indonesia through Green Trade Company for 37,500 tonnes, and to Timor-Leste for 4,000 tonnes.

“Rice is Cambodia’s strategic crop for food and nutrition security. It is not only an essential staple food, but also one of the agricultural products which has been prioritised for export,” she said.

In 2025, Cambodia exported 940,321 tonnes of rice, an increase of 45.59% over 2024. Revenue totalled $602.41 million, up by 22.64%.
