Myanmar Rice Federation says it will continue working on its solar energy project as there are further rice mills proposed for using the sustainable energy source.
“We will continue this plan as there are further proposals,” MRF responded to the Global New Light of Myanmar concerning the solar energy project.
As of March 2025, prior research and installation have been carried out for 28 rice mills that have suggested for solar energy in capacity of 41.9 megawatts. For some rice mills, the operation cost is millions of kyats but the solar energy can minimize it relatively.
Using the solar power for rice mills can help the government to provide more to the other sectors which have electricity demand, MRF said in a seminar on MRF Immersion Day 2025 held at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
MRF has already signed memorandum of understanding with 17 solar energy companies, aiming to boost the use of solar power for rice mills which engage in rice export — MT/ZS
