Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is urging local rice farmers to increase their annual production to six tons per hectare.

“I urge our farmers to increase their yield from four tons to six tons per hectare,” Lacson said, expressing his gratitude to Negrenses, especially the farmers, for their role in uplifting the local economy.

Lacson made this statement after reviewing a survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for 2023, which showed significant contributions from the agriculture sector to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to data from the PSA, Negros Occidental’s GDP grew by 6.9 percent in 2023. The agriculture sector alone accounted for 21 percent of the province’s economic output.

The economy of Negros Occidental is valued at P263.52 billion as of November this year, slightly down from P264.42 billion in 2022, the PSA report added.(TDE)
