By Leslie Rose A. Uyao

ISABELA CITY, Basilan (PIA) – The Ayudahan Rice Farmers Association in Barangay Tabiawan is grateful to the local government here after receiving much-needed agricultural equipment, which they consider a significant step in empowering their organization to enhance rice production in the community.
The assistance, funded through the Gender and Development (GAD) program, amounted to 120,000 pesos. It included a thresher machine, a power tiller and a lawn mower – all vital tools that the farmers can utilize in their imminent harvest of palay this month.
The support provided to the farmers is not merely a financial transaction; it symbolizes hope, progress and recognition of their hard work.

Various stakeholders witnessed the turnover ceremony, including the Isabela City People’s Council (ICPC), represented by Pastor Ronald Paulino, who emphasized the importance of monitoring the implementation of local government programs.
Additionally, leaders from the Local Council of Women (LCW), civil society organizations and other farmers’ groups stood in solidarity with the Ayudahan Rice Farmers Association.
They were joined by Father Rodel Angeles from the Prelature of Isabela de Basilan, who blessed the new equipment, infusing the event with a sense of unity and purpose.
Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman addressed the attendees, expressing her gratitude for the collaboration with the farmers and reaffirming the government’s commitment to serve the community.
“We’re here and very thankful on behalf of the local government because we can now support you through these machineries. Since our system is now working well, it’s timely that our People’s Council can directly assist our people’s organizations. Alhamdulillah, we have given today our farmers 500,000 pesos worth of assistance,” she stated, resonating hope and enthusiasm.
For many of the farmers, the event marked the realization of a long-held dream.
Erlinda S. Talaver, a member of the Ayudahan Rice Farmers Association, shared her excitement.
“We can now realize our dream. Before, we only thought, ‘If only we could have this,’ but now, it has become a reality. The thresher machine, tiller machine and grass cutter are here. I only asked for one rice preserver, but thanks to the kindness of our Mayor, we received three,” she said.

The local government’s support for the Ayudahan Rice Farmers Association is a testament to the impact of collaborative efforts between the local government and community organizations.
With the new machines at their disposal, these farmers are not only looking forward to a more productive harvest season; they are also inspired to continue their hard work and dedication toward sustainable agriculture.
