Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Sunday, Dec. 1, that he is urging farmers in Negros Occidental to try to improve their rice production.

The biggest contributor to the increase in the gross domestic product (GDP) of Negros Occidental based on the data of the Philippine Statistics Authority in 2023, is the agriculture sector, he said.

In his recent meeting with rice farmers, Lacson challenged them to increase their production target from 4 metric tons to 6 metric tons per hectare.

The additional 40 bags produced per hectare will further increase the GDP of the province, he said.

Lacson also said the Negros Occidental provincial government is improving the support being given to farmers.
