“Green and Low-Emission Vietnam Rice” trademark launched

VIETRISA Chairman Bui Ba Bong said that the launch is a strategic turning point in building the Vietnamese rice brand, aiming for the premium markets with strict carbon emission standards. Can Tho (VNA) – The Vietnam Rice Industry Association (VIETRISA) launched the “Green and Low-Emission Vietnam Rice” trademark at the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta Rice Research Institute (CLRRI) in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on April 24.

On this occasion, the association awarded certificates of trademark rights to six qualified rice production and trading companies. The certificates are valid for six months, after which VIETRISA will review for re-certification for qualifying companies.

VIETRISA Chairman Bui Ba Bong said that the launch is a strategic turning point in building the Vietnamese rice brand, aiming for the premium markets with strict carbon emission standards. The new rice trademark represents a commitment to environmental and social responsibility, not just a commercial label, he said.

According to Dang Van Vu, a representative of King Green Natural Food Joint Stock Company – one of the first companies authorised to use the trademark, the company is currently collaborating with farmers and cooperatives in An Giang and Dong Thap provinces to produce low-emission rice.

To achieve the certification, the company and farmers are implementing cultivation processes in accordance with the guidelines of the project “Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta” (TRVC), which includes reducing seeds, minimising fertilisers, and enriching the soil with organic matter.

Vu also said that the company plans to label “Green and Low-Emission Vietnam Rice” on 600 tonnes of rice under the King Rice brand for distribution to domestic supermarkets and export markets. Recently, consumers both domestically and internationally have expressed a desire to access green, clean healthy rice.

The “Green and Low-Emission Vietnam Rice” certification is a crucial motivator connecting businesses and farmers in reducing emissions during rice cultivation, fostering trust among consumers.

On the same day, VIETRISA signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Food Association to promote the development of the rice industry chain. Meanwhile, the Binh Dien Fertiliser Joint Stock Company and Biospring Company also signed a collaboration agreement to implement solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta.
