First meeting of FPCCI Pakistan–Romania Business Council held in Lahore

LAHORE – The first meeting of the FPCCI Pakistan–Romania Business Council (PRoBC) was held at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Regional Office Lahore under the chairmanship of Khawaja Faiq Kaleem, chairman of the Council. The meeting was attended by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Ambassador of Pakistan to Romania, and Tariq Mehmood Jadoon, Vice President FPCCI, along with members of the business council and representatives from various sectors.
In his welcome address, Khawaja Faiq Kaleem highlighted Romania’s strategic importance as a gateway to European markets and emphasized the immense opportunities available for Pakistani exporters. He noted that enhanced engagement with Romania could also create future opportunities arising from the reconstruction of Ukraine. He identified several sectors with strong export potential, including textiles, leather goods, sports products, IT services, education, rice, cookware, cutlery, printing machinery, engineering products, and Himalayan pink salt products.
Addressing the meeting, FPCCI Vice President Tariq Mehmood Jadoon reaffirmed FPCCI’s commitment to exploring new avenues of bilateral trade and investment. He described Romania as an important access point to the European market and highlighted the export potential of Pakistani textiles, agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, sports goods, surgical instruments, renewable energy solutions, logistics services, and engineering products.
Ambassador Ilyas Mehmood Nizami informed participants that Romania represents a promising market due to its sizeable economy and purchasing power. He emphasized the importance of meeting European certification and quality standards to enhance Pakistani exports. The ambassador noted that bilateral trade currently ranges between USD 100–150 million and can be significantly expanded through focused strategies and stronger business-to-business engagement. The meeting discussed various avenues of cooperation, including student and professional exchange programs in education and information technology, joint ventures, technology transfer, establishment of a display center for Pakistani products in Romania, and enhanced B2B networking between businesses of both countries.
During the meeting, the Council also approved the appointment of Noman Rashid Mir as Director of the Pakistan–Romania Business Council (PRoBC). Participants expressed confidence that his addition to the Council’s leadership would contribute significantly to strengthening trade and investment relations between Pakistan and Romania. Participants unanimously agreed to organize a high-profile FPCCI business delegation to Romania in September 2026 to further strengthen commercial relations and explore investment opportunities. The meeting concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to work collectively for expanding Pakistan–Romania trade, investment, and economic cooperation, thereby creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
