Corn and rice harvest begin in MO

Corn and rice harvest started in the last week in portions of Missouri, with temperatures and moisture below normal for this time of the year.
USDA says 2% of the corn is harvested, with 17% of the state’s crop is mature and 75% of the crop dented. Missouri’s corn is rated 78% good to excellent.
Rice harvest is 7% complete, ahead of average with conditions rated 71% good to excellent.
Five percent of the state’s soybeans are dropping leaves, with most of the crop setting pods. Conditions are rated 75% good to excellent. The USDA says 5% of cotton bolls have opened, ahead of average with conditions rated 88% good to excellent.
Missouri’s supplies of hay and other roughages are 94% adequate to surplus and stock water supplies are 95% adequate to surplus.
