NETROKONA, May 4, 2026 (BSS) – The government’s Boro paddy and rice procurement campaign officially began today in Kalmakanda upazila of the district, aiming to ensure fair prices for farmers and strengthen national food reserves.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Mikail Islam inaugurated the program at Kalmakanda Food Warehouse organized by the Upazila Food Department.

According to officials, the government has set a target to procure 2,144 metric tons of Boro parboiled rice from Kalmakanda this season. Paddy is being purchased at Tk 36 per kg, while parboiled rice is priced at Tk 49 per kilogram. The drive will continue until August 31.

Farmers in the upazila have been given the opportunity to sell their produce directly to government warehouses, with a maximum limit of 7,500 kilograms per farmer under the current policy.

District-level targets are significantly higher. The Netrokona District Food Department plans to collect a total of 20,415 metric tons of paddy and 55,585 metric tons of Boro parboiled rice across all 10 upazilas. The procurement process will be carried out through 77 authorized dealers.

Upazila Food Controller Muslima Begum presided over the programme.
