A rice breeding and selection field demonstration involving farmers took place on Sunday at Yae Aye Village in Tatkon Township. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Tin Htut attended the event and emphasized the importance of understanding farmers’ real-life conditions and involving them in selecting suitable rice varieties.

The demonstration aimed to allow local farmers to choose rice lines, best suited for climate and soil of the village. Test plots included various hybrid rice lines such as Kyaw Zeya, Yadana Toe, Pyae Wa, Shwe ASEAN, and Basmati. The Deputy Minister later observed the model plot of seven summer paddy varieties, which attracted high interest from farmers due to their water-saving benefits.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the need to establish 30 acres of pure seed selection plots and to promote local seed production. He encouraged the development of Export Zones for rice, tailored to market demands, and stressed the need for selecting the best-performing farmers and fields for future studies.
