The federal government has extended its concessional duty drawback scheme for rice exporters by three months and enhanced incentives to help Pakistani rice remain competitive in international markets.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce, the concession period has been extended from June 30 to September 30, 2026, while an additional 2 percent concession has been approved under the Rs20 billion duty drawback scheme.

The government said the move is aimed at bringing the prices of Pakistani rice on a par with Indian rice in the global market and boosting the country’s rice exports.

Under the revised scheme, exporters of basmati rice will receive a 9 percent concessional duty drawback, while the duty drawback for non-basmati rice has been increased from 3 percent to 5 percent.

The notification states that drawback claims will be accepted for shipments made up to September 30, 2026, or until the total value of eligible claims generated through the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) reaches Rs20 billion, whichever occurs first.

It clarified that once the Rs20 billion limit is exhausted, no additional drawback claims will be generated under the scheme.

The previous exemption from duties and levies had expired on June 30, 2026, and the latest extension is expected to provide continued support to exporters amid increasing competition in global rice markets.
