RANGPUR, June 26, 2026 (BSS) – Farmers are currently making all-out efforts to meet the set target of producing 20,05,028 tonnes of clean Aman rice (30,07,542 tonnes of paddy) in the Rangpur agricultural region this season.
 
During the last season, farmers produced 20,00,614 tonnes of clean Aman rice (30,00,921 tonnes of paddy) in the region.
 
Farmers are happy and their morale is high after collecting an all-time record 23,09,364 tonnes of clean Boro rice (34,64,046 tonnes in terms of paddy) from 5,09,164 hectares of land in the just-concluded Rabi season and receiving good market prices.
 
So, enthusiastic farmers are hopeful to make the Transplanted Aman rice farming programme a success in all five districts of Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari in the region this season.
 
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has fixed a target of producing 20,05,028 tonnes of clean Aman rice this season from 6,21,550 hectares of land for Rangpur agriculture region.
 
“Farmers are preparing their Aman rice seedbeds to start planting seedlings in their croplands from next month,” Additional Director of the DAE for Rangpur region Agriculturist Md Shirajul Islam told BSS. 
    
The DAE officials and farmers are hopeful of increasing Aman rice production through proper cultivation and management, use of high-quality seeds, creation of model seedbeds, balanced fertilizer application, and use of cutting-edge technology.
    
As of Thursday, farmers have prepared Aman rice seedbeds on 17,205 hectares of land against the target of preparing seed beds on 30,401 hectares of land for Aman rice cultivation in 6,21,550 hectares of land.
 
“Considering the possibility of seasonal flooding, if necessary, we will take special measures to prepare seed beds in this area so that the cultivation process of Aman rice is not disrupted,” said Agriculturist Islam. 
   
Farmers, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation and Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) will keep their irrigation pumps ready for timely planting of Aman rice seedlings across the region in case of low rainfall or drought.
 
The field-level agricultural officers have also been directed to provide necessary support and latest technology to farmers to ensure successful cultivation of Aman rice in the region.
 
“Besides, inclusive steps will be taken to prepare seed beds for late varieties of Aman rice in highlands and floating seedbeds in low-lying areas so that there was no shortage of seedlings due to floods in July-August, if any,” said Agriculturist Shirajul Islam.
 
Amid a favorable weather condition, farmers are now preparing their seedbeds and cropland for planting Aman rice seedlings.
 
Meanwhile, the government through the DAE continues distributing high-quality Aman rice seeds and fertilisers among the small and marginal farmers as incentives to assist them in cultivating the crop across the region.
 
Talking to BSS, farmers Harun Or Rashid, Lutfar Rahman, Zahur Rahman and Golam Ahad from different villages of Rangpur Sadar Upazila said that they have prepared seedbeds on their land and will start planting Aman rice seedlings from next month.
