Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation, a state-owned company in South Korea, has announced international tenders for the purchase of 78,744 tons of rice from China, Thailand, as well as from other countries.
The deadline to submit price proposals in the tender is 5 November.
The tender is seeking 56,944 tonnes of non-glutinous short grain brown rice from China and 1,800 tonnes of nonglutinous long grain milled rice from Thailand.
A further 20,000 tonnes of non-glutinous milled brewers rice may be purchased from any source.
The arrival in South Korea of a number of consignments is required between December 15, 2020 and June 30, 2026. The corporation buys rice in advance for long-term delivery.
Traders said that the results of the tender might not be known until a few weeks after submissions. Traders said that the corporation requires rice samples be sent to Korea to be analyzed before making a decision.
The Agro-Fisheries Corporation purchased an estimated 157 717 tons of U.S. and Chinese rice in a tender that closed on September 30, with the notice of award being sent on October 20, according to traders. (Reporting and editing by Elaine Hardcastle, with Michael Hogan)
