Govt to buy 50,000 tonnes of rice from India

To ensure the country’s food security, the government will import 50,000 metric tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice from India through an international open tender.

 Indian company M/s Bagadia Brothers Private Limited will supply this rice. 

The cost of importing 50,000 metric tonnes of rice will be Tk 274 crore 20 thousand, and the purchase price will be Tk 54.80 per kg.

The government will also procure lentil and edible oil to address domestic demands and stabilize markets.

In this regard, some proposals were approved at the 17th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.

Ministry of Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.

The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will procure some 10,000 MTs of lentil from Sheikh Agro Food Industries under local Open Tender Method (OTM) with around Taka 95.40 crore where per kilogram (Kg) lentil would cost Taka 95.40.

The TCB will also procure 1.10 crore litres of soybean oil under local OTM for the current fiscal year from City Edible Oil Limited with around Taka 189.47 crore with the price of per litre oil fixed at Taka 172.25.
