Vietnam exports 7 million tonnes of rice worth $3.59B
By VNA
Vietnam had exported more than 7 million tonnes of rice from the beginning of the year until Oct. 15, but domestic paddy and rice prices have fallen amid slower purchases by exporters.
The country’s cumulative rice exports reached 7.02 million tonnes, valued at nearly US$3.59 billion, down 4.4% in volume and 21.9% in value from the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).
Last week, 5% broken jasmine rice was offered at $420-435 per tonne, near a two-month low. A trader in Ho Chi Minh City said domestic trading remained subdued as many exporters slowed paddy purchases from farmers due to weak overseas demand.

In the domestic market, jasmine paddy traded at VND5,379 ($0.20) per kilogram, down VND21 from the previous week. In contrast, ordinary paddy rose by VND46 to an average of VND5,161 per kilogram, according to the VFA.
In the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, jasmine paddy held steady at VND8,400 per kilogram, OM 18 at VND6,800, IR 5451 at VND6,200, and ST25 at VND9,400, according to the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Environment.
The An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment reported fresh paddy prices ranging from VND4,800-5,900 per kilogram, depending on variety, while retail rice prices in the province stood between VND12,000-22,000 per kilogram.
On production, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that by Oct. 20, Mekong Delta provinces had sown nearly 1.24 million hectares of the 2025 summer-autumn crop and completed harvesting, with an average yield of 6.06 tonnes per hectare, equivalent to an estimated 7.51 million tonnes of paddy.
For the autumn-winter crop, 763,000 hectares had been planted, equivalent to 102.8% of the plan, with 263,000 hectares harvested at an average yield of 5.68 tonnes per hectare.
