BACOLOD CITY — The sale of rice at P20 a kilo in Negros Occidental under the Bigasan ng Bayan program kicked off in Pulupandan town on Tuesday, June 24.

The program benefited 500 residents from vulnerable sectors, who were able to purchase a maximum of P5 kilos of rice each.

It was undertaken by the Negros Occidental provincial government in collaboration with the Federation of Irrigators’ Association of Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System (FIACN-BRIS).

FIACN-BRIS president Pedro Limpangog said they sold 50 sacks of rice.

The rice was sold to senior citizens, solo parents, persons with disabilities and 4Ps members who presented their identification cards.

With the help and support of the provincial government through farm inputs and labor, Limpangog said they were able to reduce the price of rice that they previously sold at P25 a kilo under the Bigasan ng Bayan program of the provincial government to P20 a kilo.He said they will coordinate with the provincial government on the next area where they will sell the P20 a kilo rice.

“We will make sure this program will continue,” he said. /jpv
