Shopkeepers linked soaring prices mainly due to increased rice exports, which have limited the supply available locally. Additionally, higher costs of agricultural inputs in Punjab, a key rice-producing region, have pushed prices further up.

With Eid just around the corner, this surge in rice prices is worrying many families who rely on it as a staple, making festive preparations more expensive amid ongoing inflation.

In similar development, prices of basic Spice also saw increase by 25pc, putting additional financial pressure on masses ahead of Eid. Cloves are being sold at Rs3,400 per kg, black pepper at Rs3,500, garam masala at Rs2,800, while red chili and turmeric cost Rs700 per kg.

Garam masala ingredients like cumin, cloves, black pepper, black cardamom, and cinnamon have become 20 to 25 percent more expensive.
