Rice exporters welcome PM’s relief package

Recorder Report

KARACHI: The Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) has welcomed the relief package announced by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, aimed at supporting export-oriented industries, particularly the rice sector.

The package includes a reduction of Rs. 4.04 per unit in electricity tariffs, lowering of wheeling charges to below Rs. 9, and a cut in the Export Refinance Scheme (ERS) rate from 7.5 percent to 4.5 percent, which will help reduce production and financing costs for rice exporters.

Muhammad Jawed Jillani, Senior Vice Chairman REAP, Rafique Suleman, former chairman of REAP and Abdul Rahim Janoo has said that these timely measures would help the rice export sector recover from the decline experienced over the past six months.

They expressed optimism that, with continued government support, Pakistan’s rice exports would be able to match or even exceed last year’s performance.
