Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto highlighted that, under his administration, Indonesia has made notable progress toward regaining self-sufficiency in food, citing improved access to fertilizers and a record national rice stock.

During the centenary celebration of Nahdlatul Ulama in Malang, East Java, on Sunday, he stated that the government places fertilizer accessibility for farmers at the core of its national food security agenda.

“I have proved my resolve: Shortly after I took office, the government ensured that fertilizer reached all farmers in sufficient quantities and at lower prices,” Prabowo remarked in a speech broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

The president then pointed to a historic achievement in the food sector, stressing that the national rice reserves are currently at the highest level ever recorded since the country’s founding.

He underscored that the government now maintains large quantities of rice in warehouses across the nation, a progressive trend he attributed to effective management of food affairs.

He continued by saying that Indonesia had achieved food self-sufficiency as of December 31, 2025, noting that the government is optimistic about soon extending this independence to corn supplies.

“God willing, this nation will achieve total food self-sufficiency within the next three years,” Prabowo added.

Moreover, the head of state vowed to take measures to make various food commodities more affordable for all residents, including by bolstering domestic production and pursuing efficient distribution.

Prabowo also highlighted the Free Nutritious Meals program as one of his key initiatives, noting that it has served more than 60 million people nationwide since its launch on January 6 last year.

“We are able to feed 60 million children, mothers, and elderly citizens, and my goal is to extend the program to 82.3 million people in need by the end of 2026,” he stated.
