Pakistan’s Rice Exports Down by 15% in FY25

By Business Desk

Pakistan’s rice export revenue fell 14.7 percent to $3.36 billion in FY25 after a 3.7 percent decline in volume to 5.8 million metric tons, according to latest data.

According to Optimus Capital Management, the drop was driven by falling international prices, especially for non-basmati rice, which makes up over 85 percent of total exports.

Basmati exports rose 3 percent to 797,000 tons, but earnings fell 5.2 percent to $832 million from $877 million in FY24.

Non-basmati exports declined 4.7 percent in volume and 17.4 percent in value to $2.52 billion, down from $3.05 billion.

Average rice export prices dropped 9.1 percent year-on-year to Rs. 291.6/kg in FY25 from Rs. 320.8/kg.

In June 2025 alone, exports fell 40.6 percent month-on-month and 37.1 percent year-on-year. Revenue for the month dropped over 50 percent to $150 million.

Rice’s share in total exports declined to 10.5 percent in FY25 from 12.8 percent in FY24.
