Farmers across the U.S. are always looking for ways to be more sustainable, and it is why one rice grower in Arkansas is seeking new methods to save money and resources.

Rice grower Scott Matthews says he takes advantage of every climate-smart program he can and gets paid for them, too. He credits much of his success to finding ways to reduce water intake and help local aquifers from running dry.

Recently, he showcased his setup at the Conservation Technology Tour, which focuses on irrigation technology. His setup includes a 400-acre-foot reservoir, partially funded by the NRCS.

Other growers say new technological advancements over the years are creating a “golden era” for rice irrigation.
