Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia currently has rice reserves sufficient to meet domestic demand for about 324 days, or nearly 11 months, according to Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman.

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture showed that the country’s total rice reserve stands at nearly 28 million tonnes, including 3.76 million tonnes managed by the state logistics agency Bulog, 12.5 million tonnes held by households, and about 11.73 million tonnes of standing crop awaiting harvest.

The minister said Indonesia’s rice output currently reaches up to 5.7 million tonnes per month, exceeding the average monthly consumption of 2.59 million tonnes.

Rice production in from January to May 2026 is estimated at 16.92 million tonnes, reflecting positive prospects for the country’s rice sector.

The Indonesian Government is also implementing measures to sustain rice production amid climate change, including installing irrigation pumps to supply water for about 2 million hectares of farmland nationwide.

Meanwhile, fertiliser supply remains stable with prices reduced by around 20%, helping farmers maintain production and strengthen national food security.
