Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has begun exporting 2,280 tonnes of rice to Saudi Arabia, marking the first time the nation supplies its citizens performing the Hajj pilgrimage with domestically produced rice.

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, who also heads the National Food Agency (Bapanas), credited the achievement to Bulog the state logistics company and farmers nationwide.

Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani described the initiative as more than a trade milestone.

“This symbolizes the dignity and pride of our nation,” he affirmed.

He explained that the shipments, sent in batches, are sourced from local farmers, processed through high-standard milling facilities, and meet strict quality benchmarks, including a maximum five percent broken grain ratio.

All rice has passed laboratory testing, complies with international export standards, and carries halal certification.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has mandated that kitchens serving Indonesian pilgrims in Mecca and Medina exclusively use Bulog rice, ensuring consistency and trust in food supplies.

Officials stressed that the program will not affect domestic availability, as national stocks remain secure.

The government views the exports as a new stage in its food security agenda, combining diplomacy, self-sufficiency, and support for citizens abroad.
