Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday met an eight-member delegation of the Rice Mills Association at the Central Police Office. The delegation apprised IG Memon of the problems and difficulties faced by them during various business activities, including the law and order situation in Karachi.

Memon proposed that the association instal trackers in freight vehicles plying on highways. He asked them to ensure that goods are delivered only in vehicles that have trackers installed. He said that resolving the problems and difficulties faced by traders is among the priorities of police. He also informed the delegation that crime has decreased by 24 per cent.

Memon asked them to cooperate with police without fear or hesitation. “Sindh is the first province in which police stations are independent and autonomous in terms of financial resources. I’m grateful to the Sindh government for allocating a budget of up to Rs6 billion.”

He said the Safe City project is an effective weapon against criminal elements. A decrease in crime has been seen in areas where cameras have been installed, he added. He stressed that using modern technology in policing is the need of the hour, adding that the Talaash app has proven to be very helpful against habitual criminals.

He also directed the city police chief to appoint a focal person from the police force to hear the rice mills association’s issues. Addl IG Javed Alam Odho said: “We’re already considering all the issues and measures for the establishment of a police-traders coordination committee, which will be established at police station level.”

Odho said that as soon as the committee is established, contacts between police stations and business owners would be further strengthened. The Rice Mills Association expressed satisfaction with the security measures taken by police, and assured all possible cooperation and support from its side.
