RANGPUR, Sept 23, 2026 (BSS) – The healthy growth of the Aman rice plants indicates a bumper yield of the major cereal crop in all five districts of Rangpur agricultural region during the current season.
 
After completing the seedling planting process last week and surpassing the targeted cultivation goals, farmers across the region are making all-out efforts to ensure a bumper Aman rice harvest.
 
Thanks to frequent rainfall, the Aman rice plants have thrived, creating a delightful expanse of green across the vast fields-a sight that has brought joy to the farmers this season.
 
Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said transplantation of Aman rice seedling was already completed last week, exceeding the fixed farming target of the crop by 0.02 percent in the region.
 
Despite poor rainfalls during July and August, farmers with assistance of the DAE and other organisations under the ministry of agriculture completed transplantation of Aman rice seedling timely by September 15, mostly using irrigated water to crop fields.
 
“However, the frequent rainfalls in recent weeks worked as a tonic for growing Aman rice plants,” Additional Director of the DAE for Rangpur agricultural region Krishibid Md Saiful Islam told BSS today.
 
Farmers operated their irrigation pumps like deep and shallow tube wells, low lift and other pumps for supplementary irrigation to Aman crop lands in the region during transplantation of Aman rice seedlings this season.
 
At the same time, Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), BADC and Teesta Barrage Project authorities provided supplementary irrigation to make the Aman rice farming programme a success.
 
Of the growing Aman rice plants, 45.55 percent fields are now in tillering, 33.55 percent in panicle initiation, 15.97 percent in booting, 3.38 percent in flowering, 1.19 percent in milking, 0.27 percent in dough, 0.09 percent in ripening stages. 
 

“Farmers have engaged their all-out efforts in nursing their growing Aman rice plants, cleaning weeds and applying necessary pesticides on vast tracts of crop lands,” Saiful Islam said.
 
According to the DAE officials, farmers have finally transplanted Aman rice seedlings on 6,21,690 hectares of land, 100.02 percent of the targeted land area for cultivation of the crop in the region this season.
 
Earlier, the DAE had fixed a target of producing 20,05,028 tonnes of clean Aman rice (30,07,542 tonnes in terms of paddy) from 6,21,550 hectares of land for the region this year.
 
Farmers have finally transplanted Aman rice seedlings on 621,690 hectares of land, exceeding the set target by 140 heaters or 0.02 percent this time in Rangpur, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the region.
 
“The field-level agricultural officers have been providing all necessary support to farmers to ensure successful cultivation of Aman rice in this region,” Krishibid Saiful Islam added.
 
Farmers have adopted environmentally friendly perching and light trap pest management techniques for Aman rice cultivation to control insect infestations and achieve good yields in Rangpur agricultural region this season.
 
Talking to BSS, a number of local farmers said that their Aman rice plants were growing superbly amidst frequent rainfalls in recent weeks across the region.
 
Manik Mia, a big farmer from Darshona village in Rangpur Sadar, said that due to frequent rainfall, the Aman rice plants on his six acres of land are growing superbly, predicting a bumper yield of the crop this season.
