COLOMBO (News 1st): The State Trading Corporation has announced that the distribution of the rice stock ordered by the government will begin today through Lanka Sathosa and Cooperative outlets.

The Chairman of the State Trading Corporation, Ravindra Fernando says that the first consignment of rice ordered has already arrived in the country.

This shipment contains of 780 metric tons of rice.

He adds that 200 metric tons of rice will be sold through Lanka Sathosa outlets.

The Chairman further notes that tenders have been called and finalized for an additional order of 26,000 metric tons of rice.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs reported that 80,000 metric tons of rice ordered by the private sector have already been released to the market.
