Cambodia-China rice industry project launched in Kampong Chhnang

Kampong Chhnang province has initiated the rollout of the Cambodia-China Guangxi modern rice industry cooperation project, which aims to adopt China’s technology to enhance food security and improve agricultural efficiency and farmers’ income.
Somany Prum, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation at Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, co-chaired the event yesterday alongside the leadership of Forword Agriculture Technology International Cooperation, with representatives from the relevant government bodies and the private sectors of both countries in attendance.
The project, as part of the Fisheries and Rice Corridor Cooperation between Cambodia and China, will leverage the adoption of China’s technology to promote a rice production chain in Cambodia that serves as a model for sector development among the provinces surrounding Tonle Sap Lake.
According to Forword Agriculture Technology International Cooperation, the project will commence with the establishment of a modern rice industry cooperation zone covering 70 hectares in the province, alongside the construction of a model rice industry zone and capacity building for key implementers.
It will also establish rice crop maintenance, agricultural machinery, and drying service centres, and provide technical training on cultivation techniques, rice crop management, the use of modern agricultural machinery, and rice-vegetable crop rotation techniques.
Implemented by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China in cooperation with the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, the two-year Cambodia-China Guangxi Modern Rice Industry Cooperation Project will run from June 2025 to June 2027. AKP
