Govt releases report on import, export of agricultural items

The Federal Ministry of National Food Security has released a report based on data from August, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the report, Pakistani agricultural products gained access to markets in ten new countries, while the country’s overall exports increased by 4 percent.
Total imports increased by over 7 percent while exports of food items increased by 14 percent and imports of food items decreased by 32 percent.
Food sector deficit narrowed by 75 percent.
Rice exports increased by 31 percent while oilseed exports surged more than fourfold.
Tobacco exports saw a massive 230 percent increase.
Meat exports rose by 29 percent while fruit exports fell by 41 percent and vegetable exports by 37 percent.
Imports of tea and milk increased while soybean imports ceased completely.
UAE became the largest buyer of Pakistani food products while exports to China increased by 159 percent.
New markets for Pakistani Basmati rice, mangoes, and meat opened in Iran.
New markets for rice secured in Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia.
