The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday said it does not expect retail rice prices to increase despite the spike in fuel prices.

“We are not expecting any movement doon sa presyo ng bigas,” DA spokesperson Arnel de Mesa said in an interview with GMA News Online.

(We are not expecting any movement in the price of rice.)

De Mesa said retail rice prices are currently stable at around P48 to P55 per kilo.

“First, our rice inventory is good. Even if we consider the losses from the four recent typhoons, we haven’t seen any impact on prices,” he said.

“The price of rice is very stable right now, around P48 to P55, which is the standard, normal price of rice in the market, especially for regular and well-milled rice,” he added.

Based on the DA’s Bantay Presyo data as of September 7, premium local rice in the National Capital Region ranges from P45 to P56 per kilo.

Regular-milled local rice, meanwhile, ranges from P41 to P48 per kilo, while well-milled local rice ranges from P40 to P56 per kilo in NCR markets.

Fuel companies are set to implement a price hike on petroleum products this week. Gasoline prices will increase by P4.69 per liter, diesel by P5.18 per liter, and kerosene by P5.58 per liter.— MCG, GMA News
