Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son on October 25 signed Prime Ministerial Decision No. 2360/QD-TTg, authorizing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on rice trade cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore.

Specifically, the Decision approved the content of the rice trade cooperation MOU between the two governments, according to a report on the Government’s news portal.

The Prime Minister authorized the Minister of Industry and Trade to sign the MOU on behalf of the Vietnamese Government with the authorized representative of the Republic of Singapore.

This Decision takes effect from October 25, 2025.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore reported that Vietnam’s rice export turnover to Singapore has seen sustainable growth in recent years.

According to statistics from Enterprise Singapore, Vietnam is currently the third largest rice supplier to Singapore, after India and Thailand. Notably, in the first six months of 2024, Vietnam was once the largest rice exporter to the Singaporean market. This demonstrates Vietnam’s supply potential and the quality of Vietnamese rice which meets Singapore’s demanding needs and strict standards.

Looking ahead, as the world faces many fluctuations affecting the economy, global food security could present an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to boost exports. Vietnamese businesses need to focus on product promotion activities, improving quality and designs, as well as leveraging Singapore’s role as a transit hub to export to other countries.
