Indonesia to Send 10,000 Tons of Rice to Palestine

TEMPO.COJakarta – The Indonesian government will soon send aid in the form of 10,000 tons of rice to Palestine to help the victims of the genocide committed by Israel there.

“We will send 10,000 tons of rice aid to Palestine in the near future,” said Foreign Minister Sugiono in his speech at the Grand Action to Save Gaza event held at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

He mentioned that as many as 4,400 tons of logistical aid has been sent by the Indonesian government as a tangible manifestation of support for the Palestinian people. “However, this struggle is not over. There is still much that we have and will do,” he said.

Based on observations at the scene, thousands of participants in the peaceful rally began to fill the area in the South Monas Square from 06:30 AM. Participants ranging in age from children to the elderly were seen coming in droves wearing black and white clothing.

The majority of participants were seen carrying the Palestinian national flag as well as other attributes, such as scarves and banners, to show their support for the Palestinian people.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon also attended the same event. He also highlighted the discourse on sending 10 thousand tons of rice aid to the Palestinian people. However, he said the government has not scheduled a definite date for the delivery. “But definitely as soon as possible,” he said.

More than 100 thousand Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip aged under two years, including 40,000 babies under one year old, are at risk of mass deaths amidst a severe shortage of infant formula and nutritional supplements. This was reported by the Government Media Office in Gaza on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

As reported by Antara and Middle East Eye, the office described the situation in Gaza as a “slow-motion massacre”. They accused Israel of deliberately starving Gaza’s children through an ongoing blockade and the closure of all border crossings.

According to the office, mothers are forced to give their babies plain water for days as there is no infant formula. Meanwhile, hospitals and health centers witness an increase in cases of acute malnutrition threatening lives every day.

The latest statistics show that 11.5 percent of children suffer from severe acute malnutrition, a figure considered catastrophic by global health standards.

Aid groups warn that these figures likely underestimate the actual number of victims, given the collapse of the health service and monitoring systems in most of Gaza.
