Pakistan strengthens rice export policies to Europe

March 11, 2025 (MLN): In a significant move to address interceptions in Pakistani rice exports to Europe and enhance agricultural exports, the Ministry of National Food Security & Research has declared major policy decisions.
A special meeting, chaired by Federal Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, was held in Islamabad, bringing together all stakeholders, including representatives from provinces, private companies, and multinational corporations.
One of the key decisions made during the meeting was the immediate halt of methyl bromide fumigation in Pakistan.
Moving forward, fumigation will be conducted in the exporting countries instead, aligning with international standards.
Additionally, strict scientific monitoring of import conditions will be implemented within the next two weeks.
This decision is expected to directly benefit Pakistani rice exporters by eliminating unnecessary fumigation costs, thereby lowering the export price of rice and making it more competitive in global markets.
The Rice Exporters Association’s longstanding demands were also reviewed, with measures being taken to ensure a transparent and fair trade system.
Furthermore, the ministry has taken strong action against the spray mafia and is working to eliminate corruption in the agricultural commodity trade.
These reforms aim to improve Pakistan’s international standing as a reliable rice exporter, as per the press release.
The Ministry of National Food Security & Research, under the leadership of Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and Federal Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, remains committed to strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural economy.
It also aims to expand the country’s global export potential.
