₱20 rice program eases food burden for families in Tungawan

By Jaf Ivan Tabamo

TUNGAWAN, Zamboanga Sibugay — More families in Tungawan are gaining access to affordable rice as the government’s ₱20 Rice Program reaches communities in Barangays Taglibas, Looc Labuan, Linguisan, Tigpalay, San Pedro, and Sto. Niño, and helping households stretch limited budgets amid the continuing pressure on the cost of necessities.

The initiative forms part of the administration’s efforts under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to make essential food commodities more affordable and accessible to Filipino families, particularly those who need support in managing their daily household expenses.

For families in Tungawan, the availability of rice at ₱20 per kilo provides immediate relief.

Savings from every kilogram purchased can be redirected to other household needs, including transportation, school expenses, utilities, and other food items.

The impact is especially significant for low-income households, where rice accounts for a substantial portion of daily food expenses. By making one of the country’s most important staple foods more affordable, the program helps families maximize their available income and put more food on the table.

Tungawan Mayor Angelito Anińon said the program’s reach into local communities demonstrates the importance of bringing government assistance closer to the people.

“It was a pleasure to visit these communities, meet our fellow Tungaweños, and see the program reach more families,” Anińon said.

“Affordable rice may seem simple, but it can make a real difference in helping families with their daily expenses.”

The ₱20 Rice Program reflects the administration’s broader push to cushion Filipino households from the impact of food prices by improving access to affordable basic commodities and ensuring that government interventions translate into tangible benefits at the community level.

For beneficiaries, the program means more than affordable rice – it represents additional breathing room in the household budget.

Every peso saved on rice can help a parent meet another daily need, provide a child’s school allowance, or add another essential item to the family’s meal.

Local officials said the program will continue to be brought closer to more communities in Tungawan, complementing other government efforts in food security and supporting vulnerable families.

As the ₱20 rice initiative continues, the message to Tungaweño families remains clear: government support is being brought closer to those in most need of assistance in the community. (JPA/JIT/ PIA Zamboanga Sibugay/Photos courtesy of Tungawan LGU)
