HANOI, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) — Vietnam plans to export over 7.5 million tons of rice in 2025, mostly from the Mekong Delta region, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

This year, the region is expected to produce around 24 million tons of rice.

In the first half, approximately 4.53 million tons of rice will be shipped abroad. The remaining 3 million tons will be exported in the second half, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed that the Ministry of Trade boost rice exports in February, March, April, July, August and September when the rice production is expected to be at its peak.

Vietnam is expected to cultivate 7 million hectares of rice in 2025, 132,000 hectares less than in 2024.

The national rice output is set to reach over 43.1 million tons, a decrease of 323,000 tons year on year.
