Vietnam remains Singapore’s third-largest rice supplier

According to data from Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), the city-state imported 87.8 million SGD (about 67.5 million USD) worth of rice from Vietnam in the first nine months of 2025, down 11.5% year-on-year, accounting for 25.3% of Singapore’s total rice imports.

Singapore (VNA) — Rice continues to be Vietnam’s key export to Singapore, with the country maintaining its position as the city-state’s third-largest supplier, after India and Thailand.

Data from Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) showed that the city-state imported 87.8 million SGD (about 67.5 million USD) worth of rice from Vietnam in the first nine months of 2025, down 11.5% year-on-year, accounting for 25.3% of Singapore’s total rice imports.

White rice recorded the highest import value among Vietnamese rice categories, reaching 53.2 million SGD, up 10.1% from a year earlier and representing 31% of the segment. Vietnam ranked second in this category, behind India, which posted 75.2 million SGD or 43.8% market share.

Vietnam also remained Singapore’s top supplier of fragrant and glutinous rice, with import values of 24.6 million USD and 6.7 million USD, respectively, holding market shares of 59.7% and 63.2%. However, lower export prices led to a decline in value compared with 2024.

While Singapore’s overall rice import market has remained stable, Vietnamese rice continues to face strong competition from India, Thailand, and Japan, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore. Singapore and Vietnam are considering a rice trade agreement that could help stabilise Vietnam’s exports to this market, it added.

The ACRA reported that Singapore’s total rice imports reached about 347.5 million SGD in the first nine months of 2025, up 3.4% year-on-year. India remained the largest supplier with 114 million SGD, or 32.8% market share, followed by Thailand with 112.8 million SGD and 32.5%.
