Vietnam coffee, rice export prices rise on tighter supply

Domestic coffee prices and Vietnam’s rice export prices rose over the past week, supported by tightening supplies and firm export demand.

Vietnam coffee, rice export prices rise on tighter supply

Coffee prices in the Central Highlands climbed about 3.3 per cent to VND 92,300-93,000 (about USD 3.53-3.56) per kg, the highest level in more than three months.

Prices increased by VND 2,900-3,000 per kilo in Lam Dong, Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces as limited domestic supplies coincided with strong export demand.

Traders said farmers were reluctant to sell amid concerns over the next harvest. Erratic rainfall, extreme heat and rising fungal diseases have raised fears over production, while irrigation and other farming costs have also increased.

Vietnam exported 1.1 million tonnes of coffee worth USD 4.78 billion in the first half of 2026, up 9.7 per cent in volume but down 14.4 per cent in value as average export prices fell 22 per cent to USD 4,435 per tonne.

On global markets, London robusta futures extended gains, while New York arabica futures fell as investors took profits following recent rallies and improved weather forecasts in Brazil.

Vietnam’s rice export prices also rose sharply, with 5 per cent broken rice quoted at USD 445-450 per tonne, up from USD 410-415 a week earlier.

Traders attributed the increase to tightening domestic supplies and expectations that the Philippines would boost rice purchases to build reserves ahead of the typhoon season. Vietnam’s rice also remained more competitively priced than Thai supplies.

Domestic paddy prices were largely unchanged, although prices for some export-grade rice varieties edged higher.

In India, export prices also rose on concerns over the new crop after below-average June rainfall delayed planting, while Thailand’s 5 per cent broken rice fell to about USD 465 per tonne as Philippine buyers slowed purchases to assess domestic production.

On the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), wheat, corn and soybean futures all closed higher after the US Department of Agriculture released updated crop acreage and grain stock data.
