The Ministry of Agriculture proposed to extend the ban on the export of rice from Russia until the end of the year

OREANDA-NEWS  The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation proposed to extend the ban on the export of rice and rice groats from the Russian Federation for another six months – until December 31, follows from the draft resolution published on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts.

The ban on the export of rice and rice cereals was introduced on July 1, 2022 after the accident at the Fedorovsky hydroelectric power plant in the Kuban in order to eliminate the risks of shortages and ensure stable prices for finished products for consumers, and has been extended several times since then, most recently until June 30, 2024.

“In order to ensure the food security of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation decides: to establish a temporary ban on the export of rice from July 1 to December 31, 2024 inclusive… and rice cereals… The Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation should notify the Eurasian Economic Commission in accordance with the established procedure on the introduction of a temporary ban,” the draft says.

According to the draft, the temporary ban does not apply to rice exported to the EAEU countries for humanitarian assistance to foreign states, within the framework of international intergovernmental agreements, within the framework of international transit transport and to rice transported between parts of the territory of the Russian Federation through the territories of foreign states.

Also, the ban does not apply to rice exported from the territory of the Russian Federation as supplies, in order to ensure the activities of military formations of the Russian Federation located on the territories of foreign states, in order to ensure the activities of organizations of the Russian Federation located in the city of Baikonur and on the territory of the Baikonur complex, in order to ensure the activities of organizations of the Russian Federation in the Svalbard archipelago.
