Thiruvananthapuram: The state is witnessing a significant surge in rice prices, with Rs. 10 increase observed within a mere three weeks. In rural areas, the minimum price for a kilo of rice in local shops now stands at Rs. 50.
The hike in prices is primarily attributed to the conclusion of the harvest season. Traders point to the scarcity of paddy as the driving force behind the escalating costs. Notably, Ponni and Kola rice varieties have experienced an Rs. 8 increase, exacerbating concerns for consumers across the state.
