MYMENSINGH, May 28, 2025 (BSS) – Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today said there will be no need to import rice as the country’s rice stock is currently at a satisfactory level.

“The yield during the current Boro season is good. If the production from the upcoming Aman season is well, we will not need to import rice this year,” he said while addressing a meeting on Boro procurement targets, storage, and distribution at the Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner’s conference room.

He noted that the current food stock stands at 15 lakh tonnes, which is 3 lakh tonnes higher than the same period last year. “We aim to maintain a satisfactory position, but we have to keep in mind that food stock management is a continuous process,” he said.

“Last year, we had to import a significant quantity of rice. But if Aman yields are good this year, we will be able to meet domestic demand without imports,” he added.

Divisional Commissioner Mokhtar Ahmed presided over the meeting. Additional Divisional Commissioner Tahmina Akhter, Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Mufidul Alam, Sherpur Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman, Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum, Netrokona Deputy Commissioner Banani Biswas, Regional Food Officer Abu Naeem Md. Shafiul Alam, Mymensingh District Food Officer Md. Abdul Quader, Sherpur District Food Officer Md. Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan, Jamalpur Food Officer Md. Asaduzzaman Khan, and Netrokona Food Officer Md. Moetachemur Rahman, among others, were present.
