Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation stated that the first batch of rice imported by the Government will arrive in the country by December 16.

Under this, bids have been invited to import 5,200 metric tonnes of rice initially.

Importers have been given the opportunity to bring another 5,200 metric tonnes and 20,800 metric tonnes of rice respectively and the relevant advertisements calling bids have been published. Accordingly, customers can purchase rice at the Government controlled price of Rs. 220 from the market.

The Corporation further said there will be no shortage in rice in the market during the upcoming festive season.
