European traders reported on Monday that the state-backed Agro Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation of South Korea has published international tenders for the purchase of about 80,000 tons metric tonnages (tonnages) rice.

The deadline for submitting price offers to tenders is April 15, 2019.

The tenders are seeking different grades of rice, with approximately 51,000 tons coming from the United States.

A series of consignments is expected to arrive in South Korea between August 2025 – February 2026. The corporation buys rice in advance for long-term delivery.

Traders said that the results of the tender might not be known until a few weeks after submissions. Traders said that the corporation requires rice samples be sent to Korea to be analyzed before making a decision. Michael Hogan reports.
